Like the sick blue parrot that tweets no more, the care record is trapped. Caged in vendors Electronic Medical Record management systems stuck on organisational islands and unable to move freely around its health and care ecosystem.

Freeing the care records stranded on islands of electronic medical records is critical if we are to join up care in England.

Judy Falkner has identified the barriers; I offer an alternative to her “solution”.

Separating data from applications that use it

I joined an eclectic group of experts from the UK and US to discuss how we can achieve the policy commitment to “separate the data from applications”.
